Corten Steel Fire Globe 70 cm with Star Cut-Outs

The fire globe is a garden sculpture by day and a lantern of firelight by night. The 70 cm sphere is made of corten (weathering) steel and laser-cut with a scatter of stars and dots, so the flames sparkle through the shell after dark. A wide front opening gives easy access for loading logs, and the globe rests on a low round corten base that keeps it steady. Outdoors the steel develops a warm rust-orange patina that protects it - no paint, no oil, and it looks better with every season.

Care

Corten (weathering) steel builds a protective rust-coloured patina that deepens over the first weeks outdoors. In the first months, rain can wash a little rust-coloured run-off from the surface, so stand the globe on gravel, slate or a heat-proof base rather than pale porous stone if you want to avoid marks. Empty the ash once cold. No painting or oiling is needed.

Safety

Use outdoors only, on a level, non-combustible surface such as paving, slate or gravel - never on timber decking or grass - at least 3 m from buildings, fences, trees and overhanging branches. Burn only dry, seasoned firewood or kiln-dried logs - never petrol, lighter fluid or rubbish - and check local smoke control and bonfire rules before use. Never leave a fire unattended, keep children and pets at a safe distance, and keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby. The metal gets very hot: wear heat-resistant gloves and use a fire poker to move logs.
